Cheesy Pasta & Peas

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 TBSP Butter

  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ cup 2% or whole milk

  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar

  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 10 ounces shredded Monterey jack cheese

  • 1 bag Stahlbush Island Farms Frozen Peas

  • 10 ounces corkscrew pasta

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • 2 tsp butter, melted

  • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning

INSTRUCTIONS
  • Cook pasta to package directions.

  • In a large skillet or saucepan over medium/high heat, melt the butter and add the flour. Whisk until smooth and cook for an additional 30 seconds. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking. Add in the brown sugar, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Continue to cook stirring frequently until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Add in the shredded cheese, stir to combine. Add in the peas and pasta and mix together. Pour in reserved pasta water if the sauce seems too thick.

  • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, melted butter and everything bagel seasoning. Sprinkle on top of the cheesy pasta and peas. Place in the broiler for about 5 minutes or until the top is golden brown. (If you don’t have a broiler setting, bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.)
