Cheesy Pasta & Peas

INGREDIENTS
  • 6 TBSP Butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cup 2% or whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 10 ounces shredded Monterey jack cheese
  • 1 bag Stahlbush Island Farms Frozen Peas
  • 10 ounces corkscrew pasta
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tsp butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning
INSTRUCTIONS
  • Cook pasta to package directions.
  • In a large skillet or saucepan over medium/high heat, melt the butter and add the flour. Whisk until smooth and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Slowly pour in the milk while whisking.
  • Add in the brown sugar, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Continue to cook stirring frequently until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Add in the shredded cheese, stir to combine.
  • Add in the peas and pasta and mix together. Pour in reserved pasta water if the sauce seems too thick.
  • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, melted butter and everything bagel seasoning. Sprinkle on top of the cheesy pasta and peas.
  • Place in the broiler for about 5 minutes or until the top is golden brown. (If you don’t have a broiler setting, bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.)
