New Year, New Start!

What's Your Goal?

Eating healthy looks different for all of us--some people have to avoid specific foods, while others have to avoid additives like extra sugar or salt, and still others are considering lifestyle changes not just for their own health, but the health of the planet by pledging to eat local or even going vegan.

Those factors can make it challenging to put together a list like this, but we'll take it on!

Benefits of Eating Local

Why might eating locally be important? There are so many reasons! Eating local can put you in touch with foods you haven't tried before, or make you aware of the seasonal offerings in your area. It's also healthier for people--and the planet--when your food isn't traveling hundreds of miles to get to you. Take blueberries, for instance, one of our favorites! When you buy fresh blueberries out of season, they are often picked unripe in South America, put in a shipping container and ripened with a gas, then put into a U.S. port, likely warehoused again, then finally delivered to your supermarket. Compare that with buying Stahlbush Blueberries--even if you don't live in or near Oregon, our blueberries are making a much shorter trip: picked ripe from our fields, where they are trucked to our processing plant on the farm where they are washed, frozen, packaged, and sent to your local supermarket or straight to your home. And because Stahlbush isn't owned by a global conglomerate, we never sacrifice safety or quality for the sake of profits, and a majority of the money we spend to produce our products goes right back into the community of our workers, contractors and local vendors.

We make food for sharing--not shareholders--that's the difference buying local makes.
