History

A historic photo on Stahlbush Island FarmsStahlbush Island Farms is a real family farm in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. In August 1985, company founders, Bill and Karla Chambers, planted and harvested just two crops.

With a heritage of family farms in Oregon for more than a century, the Chambers have always recognized the importance of caring for the land, and in 1997 Stahlbush was the first farm to become Certified Sustainable by the Food Alliance. Unlike most farms, Stahlbush Island Farms is also a food processor. In 1998, Stahlbush Island Farms launched its own brand of sustainably grown frozen fruits and vegetables in the distinctive, biodegradable brown paper package. Five years later the company started selling Farmer’s Market brand organic purees.

In 2009 Stahlbush completed construction of the first-of-its-kind Biogas Plant in North America, which produces enough electricity for approximately 1,100 homes, nearly twice what the farm and food processing plant use in a year.

Today Stahlbush Island Farms grows dozens of crops on nearly 5,000 acres. Much of the food grown and processed at the farm is sold to other food companies that use the fruits and vegetables for ingredients in such products as soups, pies and baby foods.

Our 25th Anniversary
As Stahlbush looks forward to its 25th anniversary in 2010, the farm continues working to find innovative ways to care for the land while producing high quality fruits and vegetables.
